National APIC Membership Application 

APIC Local Chapter Dues List 2010

Membership period is twelve months and is on an anniversary year cycle.
*Membership is on an individual basis and is not transferable or refundable. Please check your organization's membership reimbursement policy.
*Membership cards are mailed within 4 weeks after receipt of payment of dues.

MEMBER CATEGORIES
ACTIVE MEMBER—Individuals occupationally or professionally involved in the practice and management of infection control or the application of epidemiology. Such members may vote in elections, serve on committees, and hold elected office.
ASSOCIATE MEMBER—Individuals not actively involved in the practice or management of infection control or the application of epidemiology. Such members may not vote or hold office. However, associate members may serve on committees.
STUDENT MEMBER—Individuals who are enrolled in a two or four year program on a college or graduate level with an interest in infection control. Such members may not vote or hold elected office. However, student members may serve on committees.

CHAPTER MEMBERSHIPS AND DUES
APIC currently has more than 113 Chapters. Chapters provide a local network for infection control professionals. Most states offer at least one APIC Chapter. National membership is required to join a Chapter. Chapter dues are additional and are paid to APIC with National dues. A list of current Chapters and dues is enclosed separately for your reference.

APIC MEMBERSHIP SECTIONS
APIC members may choose ONE Section as part of their membership application at no charge. Subsequent Section memberships are $10 each. Sections help members stay current with issues and challenges facing them, understanding IC best practices in the context of their specialty, developing and disseminating research, and building networks and personal resources. The following Sections currently are available:

AMBULATORY CARE—holds specific meeting with speaker prior to the APIC Annual Educational Conference dealing with the special implications of IC in ambulatory care.
BEHAVIORAL HEALTH—was formerly an APIC Focus Group; and has become an active section since 2000.
EMS/PUBLIC SAFETY—provides education, communication, and develops standards of care for Infection Control Practitioners in the pre hospital setting.
HOME CARE— has developed definitions for surveillance and worked collaboratively with the Missouri Alliance for Home Care on developing a Home Care Handbook. Networking and educational opportunities abound for participants who attend our meeting.
LONG-TERM CARE— holds specific meetings with speaker prior to the APIC Annual Educational Conference for the beginning and advanced ICP in LTC prior to the APIC Annual Educational Conference.
MINORITY HEALTH- Devoted to advocacy for minority health in communities, through identification of the barriers to healthcare access for minorities and by increasing awareness of the factors that disproportionately impact the health of minority populations. address these issues and initiated a taskforce to spearhead the recommendations in the strategic plan. The plan utilizes a variety of forums to identify educational resources at the regional and federal levels, provides educational opportunities through the promotion of speakers who will address minority health issues and establishes a repository for educational materials. ICPs are encouraged to become advocates for minority health and safety in communities and through networking within APIC.

PEDIATRICS— the primary focus or interest of Pediatric section members is the unique infection control issues associated with the healthcare of children and their families across the continuum of care. There are approximately 400 APIC members in the Pediatric Section.
VETERANS AFFAIRS- devoted to assisting VA ICPs to implement infection control and other related safety measures that will improve health care outcomes of veterans and employees in all VA healthcare settings. To meet this goal, the VA Membership section is striving to create formal alliances and networking opportunities with other VA programs and other federal health care arenas for the purpose of identifying and working on priority projects of mutual interest.

FOCUS GROUPS
Members will have the opportunity to join one or more Focus Groups on the demographic and interest form which is mailed with membership cards within 4 weeks after APIC receives the membership application form and payment. There is no additional cost for joining one or more Focus Groups. The Focus Groups are Air Force, Army, Navy, Consultants, International and Rehabilitation. The Research Foundation : A Division of APIC
The Research Foundation was founded in 1993 to facilitate funding of research projects aimed at preventing healthcare-associated complications and eval-uating the efficacy of infection prevention practices. Since 1994, the Foundation has awarded over $100,000 to support 17 grants. The Foundation has designed and directed a research priorities project that defined a global research agenda constructed by 50 internationally recognized experts. The Foundation supports the research grant program available to all APIC members. Your generous contributions advance the mission, goals, and objectives of the Foundation. Research is essential to supporting the profession and improving the quality of healthcare around the world. We ask for and are grateful for your continued support.

TAX INFORMATION
APIC and the APIC Research Foundation are 501(c)(3) tax exempt organizations. All but $16 of APIC dues, and 100% of contributions made to the APIC Research Foundation, are charitable contributions for federal tax purposes. Check with your tax professional to determine the appropriate amount of your deduction.
